Herbal Display, Pot up a Plant for Mother and Tool Sharpening at the Halifax Farmers Market May 11

Spring is in the air when the Second Saturdays at the Halifax Farmer’s Market get started. May 11th is the first in the Southside Master Gardener’s series of Second Saturdays for 2024. Master Gardeners will be at the Farmer’s Market to help children pot up plants for Mother’s Day. Bring your kids, grandkids or the neighbor’s kids to introduce them to plants and give them an opportunity to make a gift for their Moms and nurture a plant through the growing season. Always good to instill a love of gardening in our youth.
This Hot and Spicy Oregano will be one of the featured hard to find culinary herbs at the Southside Master Gardener Association herb sale during the May 11 Second Saturday at the Halifax Farmers Market. Kids can pot up a plant for Mother and the Master Gardeners will cheerfully sharpen your gardening tools. This year we will have a display about culinary herbs with plenty to sell. Proceeds of this sale go to fund the Southside Virginia Herb Society’s scholarship for high school seniors on their way to college. Master Gardeners will also be available to clean and sharpen your small garden tools to help with your Spring garden chores. Join us from 8 am to 11 am on Saturday, May 11 for a fun morning with your children, learn about herbs and to ask any questions you may have about your yard or garden. For more information about the Master Gardener program, please call the Halifax Extension Office at 434-476-2147, option 0 or visit their website at www.ssmga.org or e-mail ask@ssmga.org.
